THE family of an elderly woman who died following a collision on the A303 last week have released a tribute to her.

“We would like to pay tribute to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Jean Cooksey, from Taunton, who died last Wednesday at the age of 83.

“She was born in 1936 in east London to parents Stan and Gladys and worked as a primary school teacher.

“She travelled extensively, including to Brazil, Israel and India, and was passionate about helping out her family and friends whenever she was needed.

“She was very active and loved taking her dog Barley Brown out in her campervan. In her later years, although her body was slowing down, she still had a very active mind and was always making sure she was kept busy.

“Jean was a much-loved mother of Jill, Michael and David, as well as a grandmother of six and great-grandmother of four.

“Her funeral will be held at Yeovil Crematorium, with details still to be confirmed, but we would ask anyone who wishes to make a donation in her memory to support The Cinnamon Trust, a national charity for the elderly, terminally ill and their pets.”

Police are continuing to investigate the collision, which happened on the A303, close to Chicklade, at around 11.10am on September 18.

Anyone with information should call PC Charlotte Sartin, from Wiltshire Police's collision investigation unit, on 101.
