SHREWTON United are the new leaders of the Wiltshire League Premier Division after a dominant 6-0 win at home to Malmesbury Victoria Development at the weekend.

Ronan Clancy and Dominic Jackson both scored braces for Shrewton, while there was one goal each for Dean Smith and Charlie Utterson.

United’s lead at the top is only on goal difference ahead of reigning champions Wroughton, who remain the only team with a 100 per cent league record this season following a comfortable 3-0 success at home to Marlborough Town.

Jordan Lea and Jamie Mclaughlin both struck in the first half before Aaron Maximen made the points safe for Wroughton – who have two games in hand on the leaders – after the break.

Corsham Town Reserves had began the day at the top of the table but dropped all the way down to fifth place after a 1-0 defeat at home to Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development as Charlie McCuish got the decisive goal.

The top five are separated by just two points, with Kintbury Rangers sitting third after their 3-0 win at home to Holt.

Shaun Thorp and Russell Benham both struck in the first half and Tom Mahoney added a third after the change of ends.

Fourth-placed Purton claimed a 1-0 victory at home to Frome Collegians thanks to Tom McCulloch’s strike.

Melksham Town Reserves were 2-0 winners away at Cricklade Town.

Otis Young and Adam Mitchell got the goals for Melksham.

Finally, there was only one draw at the weekend as Stratton Juniors’ home game against Trowbridge Town ended 2-2.

Trowbridge were grateful to Mark Reynolds for their point as he struck a stoppage-time equaliser.

Aaron Masson got the visitors’ other goal, while Taylor Gill and Tom Whitam were both on target for Stratton.

The bottom two sides, Pewsey Vale Development and Ludgershall Sports, were both unable to claim their first points of the season as they did not have fixtures over the weekend.
