A MOTORCYCLIST who died following an accident in Dorset has been named as Ian Hateley, 47 from the Trowbridge area.

He died in hospital in the early hours of September 2 after he was involved in a collision with a black BMW between Abbotsbury and Swyre, on the road along the Dorset coast.

Mr Hateley’s family this week issued a tribute which described him as a loved family man.

They said: “Ian Hateley, 47 years old, from near Trowbridge, Wiltshire, sadly passed away following a road accident on 1st September 2019.

“He is already hugely missed as a son, father, brother, partner, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend.

“Ian was loved by all who knew him and will be remembered as a very kind, talented, generous, genuine, funny and happy person, with an infectious smile and a cheeky twinkle in his eye.

“The family would like to express special thanks to all the attending emergency services, including the Dorset Air Ambulance, as well as the doctors and staff at Southampton General Hospital, and Dorset Police, especially the family liaison officers.”

Police Sergeant Sarah Jones said: “Our thoughts very much remain with the family of the motorcyclist.

“Our investigation into this collision are ongoing and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to contact us. I would also ask anyone who was driving in the area at the time and has dashcam fitted to their vehicle to please check their footage.”

More tributes have been paid to Mr Hateley online and on social media.

Julie Dutch commented: “He was a lovely man always said hello and would help u in any way he could.

“We used to play together as kids. You will be sorely missed. RIP Ian.”

Damian Ephgrave commented: "Going to miss you mate, was one of the nicest and funniest guys you could ever meet. RIP my friend."

Tracey Watson said: "RIP Ian, remember you from school, lovely person."
