TWO teenagers were arrested following a car chase from Chippenham to Lacock at the weekend.

Just after midnight on Saturday, police spotted a car near Bumper’s Farm, on the A350, which was believed to be linked to a number of fuel thefts in the area.

They attempted to stop the Ford Mondeo, but the driver speeded away from officers along Hungerdown Lane.

A chase started and the driver of the vehicle was seen to go the wrong way around a roundabout.

A stinger was deployed by officers near Lacock and the car was stopped on Mons Lane.

One 16-year-old boy from Chippenham was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, theft of fuel and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

An 18-year-old boy also from Chippenham was arrested on suspicion of theft of fuel and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

PC Barry Geering said: “Driving in this manner not only puts you and your passenger in danger, but also puts other road users and pedestrians at risk of serious injury or worse.

“I’d urge anyone who witnessed this vehicle being driven through Chippenham shortly after midnight on Saturday to get in touch via 101, as you may have information, or footage from a dash cam that could assist our investigation.”

The teenagers were both taken to Gablecross custody for further questioning and have since been released under investigation while the investigation continues.
