HOMEOWNERS in Chippenham have been warned to be cautious amidst a recent spike in reported burglaries across the town.
Wiltshire Police have issued this warning after increasing the risk of being burgled in Chippenham from a five, the lowest rating, to a four.
They have informed residents via community messaging boards that the break ins do not happen at specific time, they have been evenly reported throughout the day and night.
The majority of houses targeted were vacant at the time, after the owners were away from home, and in isolated areas where neighbours would not be aware.
Most of the burgled homes were entered through a back door, mostly a patio style door.
Police have advised residents to ensure all doors and windows are locked and valuables are secured inside the house.
If you have CCTV, make sure it is working, and if you have an alarm system, turn it on when you leave the house even if it is for a short time.
If you see any suspicious behaviour around Chippenham, call 101.
