SINGING teachers from Chippenham will perform in the town on September 7 in a 'light introduction to opera'.

Marie Elliott and Susan Coates, both professional singers as well as teachers, will take to the stage at The Cause Music and Arts Venue.

Susan Coates said: "The concert, called Autumn Gold, will give us a chance to sing in a variety of styles.

"It is designed to be a light-hearted introduction to Opera and Broadway and we hope to inspire people of all ages to come and listen."

The pair, who have a wealth of stage experience between them, became friends more than 10 years ago and enjoy performing together.

The programme includes the famous 'Flower Duet' from the opera Lakmé, which is particularly relevant to Chippenham as the composer, Leo Delibes, was born in Chippenham's twin town of La Fleche, France. Other songs include the 'Habanera' from Carmen, 'The Jewel Song' from Faust and the duet 'I Know Him So Well' from Chess written by ABBA's Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. The duo will be accompanied by Nick Goodall on piano.
