THE major task of re-chalking the Alton Barnes White Horse has finally been completed with a little help from the RAF and 60 volunteers.
The horse in the Pewsey Vale has now been spread with 46 tonnes of pristine chalk after Molly Sutherland, 11, was helped by dad Rob to make the dream become a reality.
Molly, who has just left Woodborough Primary School, said: “It’s amazing how many people have came to help. There were people there from France, Sweden, Hong Kong, the United States of America and Ireland.”
Mr Sutherland said: “It’s been an amazing project as we’ve managed to do this at no cost to the community or Natural England, benefitting the local community and visitors that come to visit the Vale of Pewsey.”
The first attempt by a Chinook to take chalk to the top of the hill had to be called off because of high winds and the spreading of the chalk took longer than expected but the operation is now finally finished.
Many people gathered on the hillside to watch the helicopter in action.
