MOTORISTS driving through Bradford Leigh have been watching the progress of a rather unusual addition to the crossroads in the centre of the community, marvelling at the tenacity of a single sunflower.
The plant, which appears to have been self seeded rather than planted deliberately, has sprouted on the edge of on of the traffic islands by the traffic lights.
Defying roadside fumes, blast winds from passing traffic and recent heavy rain, it is now about three foot tall and is bravely blooming with a bright head of petals and seeds - which, as with all sunflowers, turns during the day to follow the warmth of the sun.
Drivers who use the route regularly now keep an eye out for the flower as it brightens their mornings.
