CONSTRUCTION work is set to begin at the Calne Community Campus from September with plans to be completed by winter 2020.

The £3.4m refurbishment of the leisure centre includes a new fitness suite, which will be double the size of the existing gym, while the wet change facilities will be entirely revamped, delivering a new changing village. The centre will be redecorated throughout.

The build will be phased to enable the centre to remain open for the vast majority of the build period

Allison Bucknell, cabinet member for communities, leisure and libraries, said: “Calne Community Campus is an exciting project for the town, and we’re delighted to have appointed a contractor to begin work to create a refurbished leisure complex, which will be a real asset to Calne.

“We know how important leisure services are to our communities, so we’re pleased that the current centre will remain open for most of the build to provide a continuity of service to customers.”

The public entrance will move to the back of the building as work begins by main contractor MD Group to expand the current gym and improvements to the dry changing area, front entrance lobby and offices.
