BUSINESSES in Devizes are backing a campaign to make the town Makaton Friendly by learning special signs and symbols to help customers with communication difficulties.
Lucy Heasman launched the campaign last year and is nearing her goal of gaining the special status for Devizes.
She said: “Our campaign to make Devizes Makaton Friendly is progressing well. We’ve used all of the licences that were granted by the local area board and the health and wellbeing group.
“We’re on the final push now, and as there are now 25 Makaton Friendly businesses and organisations, we just need a final five who are prepared to pay for their own licences.”
The licence costs £50 and last for two years and is granted once a representative from a business attends a free two hour taster session to learn the signs and symbols.
The business is then given a sticker to display to show their are Makaton Friendly.
