A BALL in memory of Claire Cain the inspiration behind Claire House Children's Hospice has raised £14,000 for the charity.

Taking place on Saturday, July 27, the Bright and Beautiful Ball was compered by Radio Merseyside DJ Roger Philips and was held at Wallasey Town Hall.

Claire would have celebrated her 40th birthday on July 31 and to mark this, her family and friends have launched the 40 for 40 campaign, setting themselves the target of raising £40,000 for Claire House.

After a brave battle with cancer Claire passed away in 1989 and at the time her family felt that there was little support available.

Claire's courage inspired her parents and other local families to begin a fundraising campaign which led to the opening of Claire House Children's Hospice in Wirral.

Throughout 2019 a number of family events have been taking part in several events including a Fun Run and Funny Hat Day to help reach their £40,000 target.

The Bright and Beautiful Ball has helped bring the 40 for 40 campaign fundraising total to almost £60,000.

Chris Cain, Claire’s mum said: “On behalf of Claire's family and friends, I would like to thank everyone who was involved in the Bright and Beautiful Ball and helped make the night such a great success.

“Special thanks to, Roger Phillips, Billy Hui & Sing Me Merseyside Choir, Bow Selectas and Cheeky Chillies caterers.

“It has been an emotional few months as many of Claire's school friends turned 40 this year, but seeing them come together to fundraise in Claire's memory has also been very special.

“Claire would be very proud of what has been achieved in her name.”

Money raised through the 40 for 40 campaign will fund a year-long music and care package at Claire House, enabling seriously ill children and families to enjoy music; both in the hospice and out in the community.
