YOUNGSTERS who want to have fun this summer holiday and be surrounded by history at the same time can find just the answer at both the World Heritage Site of Avebury and Wiltshire Museum in Devizes.

The National Trust is running a programme of summer events for young adventurers that include archaeology afternoons, the chance to curate their own museum and to join in a teddy bear trail inspired by archaeologist Alexander Keiller who excavated Avebury in the 12th century.

There are also drop in yoga sessions for children where parents are welcome to get involved as well.

A spokesman said: “Now that school’s out for summer we have something going on every day at Avebury.

“They can take part in our Teddy Bear Discovery Trail from the Alexander Keiller museum barn. Even as an adult Alexander Keiller owned teddy bears.”

In Devizes children have been going even further back in time by taking part in dinosaur and fossil days.

And in weeks to come there will be the opportunity for youngsters under 11 learn about ancient Greek mythology while making golden head dresses and painting terracotta dishes with mythological designs and to do summer textiles and crafts that include painting fabric bags and designing rag rugs.
