HAIRDRESSER Marianna Romain believes she has launched the first ever eco friendly salon in Devizes.

Ms Romain has just opened Romain & Co in the Ginnel after working as a hairdresser for 13 years.

She said: "We are taking steps to be as kind to our environment as we can. The salon has being set up with energy saving in mind from recycling, using a 100 per cent renewable energy supplier, power saving lighting, reusable gloves, paper instead of foil for highlighting hair and biodegradable paper towels."

Ms Romain, who grew up in Devizes is a former pupil of St Joseph's Roman Catholic Primary School, St Augustine's College and Devizes School sixth form.

She said: "I studied art graphics and psychology at sixth form before going to Wiltshire college for hairdressing where I won my first award at the college competition."

She went on to work at a Devizes salon before going it alone. She said: "I started my career at Diffusion 13 years ago and I've been lucky enough to get TIGI London academy training, where you are taught by the best in the business.

"Three years ago I went self employed at worked as a freelance hairdresser at Blush Beauty Studio ,Pewsey. I quickly realised that I was going to need to expand as my business soon outgrew me, which led me to where I am today opening up my eco friendly salon Romain & Co.

"I am a Balayage specialist which means I cut and colour slightly differently to your traditional cutting/colouring methods. I’m all about low maintenance, boho styling and lived in colours and cuts.

"Romain & co is a small collaboration of friendly independent stylists all with a TIGI London Academy background.

"The salon has also launched a new product range, called Insight which is environmentally friendly and free from nasty plastics and chemicals."

She said the salon wants to become part of the Devizes community and support both the town and its customers. She said: "We wanted to create a cosy sanctuary with a at home feel.

"We like to support our locals, serving home baked, locally sourced ,vegan brownies and speciality tea from our neighbours at The Ginnel, Tea Inc. There is also be a book swap corner at our waiting area."

A party was held to mark the opening with demonstrations, champagne and a singer.
