Pat and Brian Fisher, of Royal Wootton Bassett, were thrilled to receive a greetings card from the Queen, for their Diamond anniversary. They were wed on July 11, 1959 at the Methodist Church in Castleford, the Yorkshire town where they grew up. Pat and Brian, both born in 1938, were at primary school together.

However, romance began in their teens, at a local dance, and they were engaged just before Brian 's call-up for National Service, which parted them for almost two years. They kept in touch by letter, and clearly absence made the heart grow fonder, as within four months of Brian's demob, they were married, and acquired their first home together.

Their first child, Garry, was born in 1963, and the family increased in 1971, when premature twins Karen and Cheryl arrived, soon after the move south for Brian's new job in Swindon. The Fisher family settled in Wootton Bassett, made friends, and have been active members of the local community for almost half a century.

Pat became well known for her work in the Youth Training Scheme and in local catering ventures. She also worked for WH Smith Personnel and as a legal secretary. Hobbies included ice-skating, helping with shows at the Link Centre. and the couple's charitable work through the local Lions Club. Brian has also been involved in Wootton Bassett Cricket Club.

Pat and Brian are grateful for happy times with their family, which has grown to include six grandchildren, and they appreciate the many friends and colleagues whose company they have enjoyed over the years.
