STEAMPUNK fans from across the country descended on Wiltshire yesterday for the first day of festival at a perfect location.

The historic beam engines at Crofton near Marlborough provided the backdrop for the Summer Steampunk Steaming event.

Enthusiasts dressed to impress with costumes from the Victorian era.

Crofton chairman Graham Snook said: "It was a really fun and successful show and we hope it will become an annual event.

"Lots of people arrived dressed in the Steampunk theme."

The steaming continues today (Sunday).

The organisers said: "It is a true Steampunk weekend inside and around a 200 year old working steam engine house where you can experience the sight, smells and sound of an authentic Steampunk environment.

"Top line Steam Punk Entertainers, Professor Elemental, and Alice’s Night Circus will be on the Crofton Stage.

"Plus people can take part in traditional Steampunk games such as NERF guns, Tea Pot Racing, and Tea Duelling.

"Local steampunk group Steamhenge will be helping to manage the activities during the event, adding to the spectacle."

Steampunk was originally a literary sub-genre of science fiction, in which everything relies largely upon the power of steam and similar technologies. Crofton with its working 200 year old Steam Engines is therefore the perfect setting.

The best dressed male was judged to be Sean Von Frankenstein from Amesbury while Caren Horton from Chippenham was the best dressed woman.

Dave and Rosie Moult Were there with their Steampunk caravan. When not touring Mr Moult is a Malmesbury plumber.
