A delightful selection of music was enjoyed by an appreciative audience at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy Summer Music Concert, which rounded off another successful academic year in fine style.

The Wind Band set the tone with the opening number, That's Entertainment! - a message the summed up the event.

Performances by various instrumental ensembles included an Oboe, Horn and Piano trio; Saxinents, Brass, Saxophones, a Strings group, flute ensembles and jazz . There were excellent choral numbers also, by the Senior Choir and Junior Voices. The concert was another triumph for the performers and their directors - Mrs Hodgson, Mrs Potter, Miss Swinger and Mrs McMullin, and the peripatetic music teachers Vanessa Harris, Tracey Absalom and Caire Schollick.

The musicians ventured into the High Street last week, for an end of term afternoon concert at the Town Hall precinct, where seating was provided for an appreciative audience, on the hottest day of the year. The two hours of free entertainment provided a sizzling start to the summer holiday, and gave passers-by a welcome introduction to the Academy's fine musical tradition.

The next opportunity to enjoy the musical talents of students at Royal Wootton Bassett's outstanding secondary school will be an autumn music concert and guitar recital at the Academy on October 14.
