Fifteen student musicians performed a very enjoyable grand piano recital at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy last week. The pianists were applauded by an appreciative audience in the school hall, where one of many highlights was Feast of the Forest, composed by one of the youngest performers, Ewan Johnstone of Year 7.

Millie Evans, of the Lower Sixth form, opened the concert with Nocturne in C# minor by Chopin. Ellie Fleckney, Year 8, played Minuet by Reinagle. Kyle Hayward, another Year 7 composer, played a piece he had written.

Natasha Harris of Year 8, performed A Passing Storm by Walter Carroll, and pleasing variety was provided by Year 9 pupil, Katie Hughes, who played The Merry Peasant by Robert Schumann.

Samuel Davidson, of Year 10, played Mango Walk, a piece that was also the choice of Ashwin Chandrabalu of Year 8.

Tane Castle in Year 8 performed Chopin's Waltz in E Minor.

Naomi Kremerov, of Year 10, played The Reef, and Tom Gahan, also Year 8, chose Holiday in Paris by William Gillock.

Por una Cabeza by Carlos Garde was performed by Daisy Dowdeswelll of Year 7; Isabella Draycott, Year 10, played Hand in Hand by Ben Crosland; Sophie Saru, Year 7, played Stick and Hat by Michael Stahl and Lullaby. Lucia Green of Year 7, played In Dreams, and the recital was completed by Daniel Leslie, of Year 7, whose choice, All Is Calm, was an apt finale.

All the young pianists were thanked by Head of Music Mrs Liz Hodgson.
