IT IS NOW more than 21 years that Jeremy Ashpool has been at the popular Jeremy’s Restaurant at Borde Hill Gardens.

In a bid to find the perfect spot for dinner or lunch in the sunshine, Taste visited to see if he was still serving up the wonderful food he is known for.

Jeremy’s is a short drive north from Brighton and just a couple of miles outside Haywards Heath.

What is striking when you arrive is the setting. The garden at Jeremy’s is simply stunning. Although he serves up fine food the indoor and outdoor seating is very relaxed and the garden is a great spot for a stroll between courses. The children love it there too, running under the pergola and looking in the fish pond. The resident ducks and ducklings have been the main attraction lately.

In fact it is so picturesque and spacious you can see why people have their wedding receptions there.

The food really is great too. Our appetiser of feta, kidney beans and cashews set the tone. It all went down so easily. We were there on a Sunday when the quail, scotch egg, black garlic and leeks starter is among a selection of wonderful choices.

Hard to choose between that and the asparagus, Jersey Royals, truffle and chicory starter.

And the roast beef almost melts in the mouth. The 28-day aged sirloin of beef comes with roast potatoes, glazed carrots, sugar snaps, Yorkshire pudding and a red wine jus.

If you visit Borde Hill and fancy visiting a cafe instead then Jeremy’s wife Vera runs the hugely successful Café Elvira next door.
