A FRANTIC search is under way after a swimmer went missing in a lake at Cotswold Water Park.

The man is thought to have entered the lake while searching for his pet dog but then he himself disappeared

Police, fire and ambulance crews are currently at the scene of the incident at Shorncote, near Cirencester.

Emergency services began to search the lake just after 1.40pm today. It is believed the man failed to resurface while in Lake 32 - one of 150 lakes.

Rescue teams continue to search the lake on canoes, while the National Police Air Service searches overhead.

South Western Ambulance Service say they sent a number of resources to the scene, including a hazardous area response team.

An area has been roped off as emergency services search the lake.

The park is leased by Cotswold Water Park Trust and run by a separate management company.

The site includes two lakes, one with a small beach for swimming and boats to hire and another with an inflatable water park.

A spokesman from Gloucestershire Police said: "We were called to Cotswold Water Park shortly after 1.40pm today following reports that a swimmer had disappeared in the lake.

"Officers are in attendance along with the National Police Air Service and fire service and searches to locate the man are currently taking place.

"No more information is available at this time."
