A 33-year-old Devizes woman has been arrested following a spate of fires in Waiblingen Way.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of arson on Saturday after a fire in a bin store on July 8.

A police spokesman said today: "Officers investigating a suspicious fire in Devizes have arrested a woman in connection with the incident.

"The fire was started in a bin store in Waiblingen Way shortly after midnight on July 8.

"Fortunately nobody was injured in the incident but officers from Central CID have been investigating.

"On Saturday, a 33-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent/reckless as to whether life was endangered.

"She has since been released under investigation and enquiries are continuing."

Det Sgt Adam Fleetwood-Brown, of Central CID, said: “We are aware that there has been a lot of discussion, especially on social media, in relation to this incident, and previous small fires in the same street on July 6 and 7, and we are treating these incidents as linked.

“We understand that incidents of this nature can cause fear and concern amongst the local community and I’d like to reassure local people that we take reports of this nature seriously.”

Police are urging anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area of Waiblingen Way shortly before midnight on July 7 to 12.30am on July 8 to call 101 and quote crime reference number 54190066072.
