THE Mayor of Calne Cllr Robert Merrick welcomed visitors to the town from Germany and France against the backdrop of a carnival and festival.
Coaches arrived at the Sainsbury’s carpark on Friday afternoon (June 28) with representatives from the twin towns of Charlieu from the Bourgogne of France and Eningen in Swabia, Germany, who stayed with local families following a reception at the Farmhouse Cafe.
Cllr Merrick said: “We celebrated the historic connections between Calne in Wiltshire and Caln Township in Pennsylvania, and the long associations and many visits between Calne and our twin towns Charlieu in France and and Eningen.
"After many months of preparations, the town hosted visitors from these fine towns as we renewed our ties, made new friends and showed them the best that our town and county have to offer. It was a privilege to share with them two very significant events in the Calne calendar over the weekend."
