A SMALL but perfectly formed library has opened on the Village Green at Lower Stanton St Quintin.
The Wee Free Library was declared open on Saturday, June 22, by Cyril Pennington who gave a talk on the history of the green and about how it had a pond 80 years ago.
The Free Library movement is a worldwide phenomenon but the idea for the one in the village came from Liz Cullen, who will keep an eye the books and keep it stocked.
She said the library is now open for book swapping and donations and there are a variety of titles and subjects to choose from available for all ages.
“It was built by David Haines in the village who volunteered to make it,” she said, “he’s a real craftsman, carpenter and builder.
“I had seen the idea in France and Spain and thought this was a good way to promote the Green.
“There are about 40 books inside, with some for early years, young adults, children and literary fiction and novels.”
