Pupils and staff from three Calne schools joined forces to let children enjoy the freedom of the great outdoors. Young Leaders from The Springfields Academy helped guide children from St Margaret’s Preparatory School and Cherhill C of E Primary School through a morning of challenging activities.
The day of The Big Outdoor Lesson started with tuition in First Aid, followed by the excitement and adventure of tree climbing. Bushcraft, which included building fires and cooking, completed the days’ activities.
St Margaret’s Outdoor Learning Co-ordinator Kim Callaway said: ‘It was a great opportunity for children from the different schools to work together.
The whole morning was about teamwork and getting them to push themselves to do things that they might not otherwise try.
"The Young Leaders from Springfields did an excellent job of leading demonstrations and were fabulous mentors for the younger children. Additionally, Springfields’ staff did a wonderful job ensuring that everyone was involved. At the end of the morning, everyone was excited about what they had achieved."
