A COUPLE who met at a town hall dance have celebrted 60 years of marriage .

Sylvia and Michael Kington, who spent most of their married life in Little Bedwyn but now live at Fyfield, near Marlborough celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary with friends and family at the town’s golf club at the weekend.

Mrs Kington, 80, said: “It wasn’t love straight away but he grew on me. We used to go on cycle rides and to the cinema in Newbury on the train after first meeting at Hungerford Town Hall where he asked me to dance.

“I think give and take is important in any relationship and I think that is what has helped us to stay happily together for so long.”

The couple who have a son and a daughter and two grandchildren lived in Little Bedwyn for 52 years and still often return for social events.

Mr Kington, 84, started work as a plant operator and later ran his own haulage business.

Mrs Kington, who worked as a seamstress, still likes to drive and is a keen gardener. She said: “Driving allows us to keep our independence which is important.

“I like to go back to Little Bedwyn to see friends and to stay active.
