CHILDREN from schools across Chippenham have been getting active this week as the town’s Sports Partnership held a two day Olympic Legacy event at Stanley Park.

On Tuesday and Wednesday more than 500 year six pupils, ten local sports coaches and more than 30 young leaders from the town’s primary schools as well as Hardenhuish, Sheldon and Abbeyfield took part in many sporting events including shooting, dance and lacrosse.

The event is also supported by the three secondary head teachers, Ralph Plummer and Nick Norgrove from Abbeyfield, Lisa Percy from Hardenhuish, and Neil Spurdell from Sheldon, who gave the children a rousing welcome on both days and some words of wisdom to remind them of the Olympic values.

Co-headteachers from Abbeyfield, Mr Norgrove and Mr Plummer said: “The event is an important part of the transition process for all pupils involved as teams are based on which School they are moving in to.

“Our Sports Ambassadors do a brilliant job leading teams, supporting and encouraging the children throughout the day and their different events.

On Tuesday the event was closed by Wiltshire Council leader Jane Scott and Wednesday’s event was closed by the deputy mayor, Teresa Hutton.
