A Calne school is continuing to work hard in order to promote children’s rights worldwide.

St Margaret’s Preparatory School already holds a Silver UNICEF Rights Respecting School and for the past two years, the entire community has been working towards Gold recognition.

Throughout 2018/19, a number of initiatives have been running at the school, which started with children applying to become Rights Respecting Ambassadors.

The elected ambassadors’ team supports children in all age groups and regularly leads discussions and assemblies on children’s rights.

Pupils have been actively involved with UNICEF’s clean air campaign and literature representing their views was sent to the UK Government.

The St Margaret’s Rights Respecting School Co-ordinator, Mrs Jo Perkins, said: ‘The children in Years 5 and 6 are currently debating how we can improve air quality around the school and we intend to share their ideas with the entire St Margaret’s community."

Earlier in the year, children in Year 2 promoted the UNICEF/Clarks shoe share scheme, which raised money to support the education of young people around the world. More than 200 pairs of shoes were collected and recycled, to raise money to enable UNICEF to provide educational materials for 40 children, wherever they live and even after disaster has struck.

St Margaret’s is passionate about every child having the right to play and supported the Soccer Aid day, June 14. Children from primary schools in Calne joined in with a range of football themed activities, and loose change jars and a cake sale at the end of the day raised a fantastic £520 for UNICEF.
