THERE are only days to go ahead of one of Calne’s major events, namely the summer festival and carnival.

The festival takes place on Saturday, June 29, and runs during the afternoon from 12noon to 6pm with the carnival procession starting at 4.30pm from Bremhill View and finishing on The Strand at approximately 5pm.

There are more than 20 carnival entries from different community groups and businesses.

Organised by the town council the event is expected to attract around 5,000 spectators as well as those taking part.

Event organiser Erin Weaver, of the council said: “We hope people will come along and explore our cultural themed event.

“With over 50 stalls, entertainers, live music acts and a whole heap of fun, there’s no better way to spend your Saturday.”

The festival begins with a bi-annual Town Crier Competition, held at Beach Terrace while there are also donkey rides, a Punch & Judy show, facepainting, a bouncy castle and live music on The Wharf in the afternoon.
