WESTBURY Lions Club is to close its bookshop in the town on Sunday, June 23 after the property was sold at auction.

The new owners want to take possession of the shop, which is part of a double-fronted building at 14-16 Edward Street.

The premises were recently sold by Clive Emson auctioneers on a 999-year lease for a sum close to the £50,000 guide price.

The sale meant that Westbury Lions Club has been forced to close down its fundraising bookshop after 25 years after being unable to find new premises.

The shop in Edward Street was opened in June last year following the bookshop being moved from Warminster Road.

Westbury Lions said: “We thank the past and present owners for their generosity in allowing us the use of their premises. We would also like to thank both our volunteers and customers for their great support, raising funds for our local charity.

"All books will be at reduced prices until the shop closes on Sunday 23rd June.”
