ORGANISERS of the 6th Corsham Walking Festival are celebrating its success despite the wet weather over last weekend.

More than 400 walkers registered for the 27 walking events and 80 friends and family attended the Quiz and Supper evening.

This year, the festival attracted walkers from as far afield as Birmingham, Exeter and Newport in South Wales.

Centred on the Corsham Community Campus the majority of walks started and finished there.

However, several walks were based at Bradford on Avon and nearby villages enabling walkers to see other areas further afield.

Town Council Chairman Cllr Steve Abbott opened the Festival before saying farewell to the first group of walkers departing on the South of Corsham walk.

Festival spokesman Barry Cox said: "This year we organised a variety of walks to suit all ages and abilities, including a Children’s Treasure Hunt, a Nordic Walking Taster, Mindfulness and a new Murder Mystery Walk that attracted quite a considerable amount of interest – Cluedo with ‘steps’

"Walking Festivals are a fantastic way to get active, see some of the beautiful countryside, and learn a little bit more about your surroundings and last but least have some fun."

Planning for the 2020 Walking Festival will start again in October. To get involved contact the chairman, Kevin Wilson, at chair@corshamwalkingfestival.org.uk

Meanwhile, Corsham’s ‘Blue Sky’ community arts festival from June 11-16 began on Tuesday. Now in its 5th year, the festival is delivering an action-packed programme of music, comedy, food, theatre, visual arts and more.

Highlights include a performance on Friday June 14 by Rachael Dadd and the Blue Sky Festival Choir at 6pm at the Springfield Community Campus.
