CHIPPENHAM Freemasons have presented a cheque for £240 to their local branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The 43 members of the Lansdowne Lodge of Unity No. 626 in Chippenham raised the cash from their annual Ladies Festival for local charities held in November last year.

Landsdowne Lodge master, Clive Stainer, said: “We became aware of the local group through our involvement with the Bowling for the Disabled Group where John Parkin, pictured with his dog Glen, are also members.

“It is such a worthy cause that I had no problem in getting the Lodge members to agree and I’m delighted that we will be offering further support to Guide Dogs during this year.”

Mr Stainer and John Badger, of Chippenham Freemasons, together with Pat Stanier, presented the cheque to Janet Smith, Chair of Guide Dogs, Chippenham and Corsham, watched by Mr Parkin with Glen, and Lesley Ognibeni with her two retired dogs Lucy and Zelda.

Wiltshire Freemasons have 44 Lodges meeting throughout Wiltshire, including the Lansdowne Lodge. Last year, Wiltshire Freemasons distributed £137,042 to local charities.
