A WILTSHIRE child rapist has had three years added to his jail sentence after government lawyers took his case to the Court of Appeal.
Peter Daniels, who sexually abused 22 young girls aged three to 14, was originally sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of nine years.
But today, the minimum period 70-year-old Daniels, formerly of Salisbury, must serve was increased to 12 years.
Geoffrey Cox QC, the Attorney General, said: "While the maximum term in this case reflects the seriousness of the crime, I came to the view that the minimum sentence was unduly lenient. I am grateful the Court of Appeal agreed and increased it.”
Wiltshire Chief Constable Kier Pritchard said: “Peter Daniels is a prolific offender and the investigation into his crimes was the biggest child sexual exploitation case that Wiltshire Police has dealt with.
“This new sentence handed down today means Daniels will be in his 80s before he is considered for parole. We hope that provides some comfort for his victims, who are still coming to terms with what happened to them."
