SWINDON: A man who carried out two assaults while he was on a community order for a series of violent offences, including attacks on emergency service workers, has been given another community order.

Swindon magistrates instructed David Corry, 43, of Tryon Close, Liden to undergo six months of treatment for alcohol dependency and imposed a seven-month curfew keeping him in his home between between 8.30pm and 5.30am daily.

The court heard he assaulted two people, including a child under 18 on July 19 and drove a Transit van when he was over the legal alcohol limit.

He gave a breath test reading of 48mg. The limit is 35mg.

Chorry admitted all the charges.

He was fined £580, banned from driving for 16 months, told to pay £100 compensation and his previous community order was revoked.

The bench ordered him to pay £170 in contributions towards victim services and court costs.

STRATTON: A curfew and a four-year ban were handed down to Neil Whyte after he was found guilty of being over the alcohol limit and being the driver of a car involved in a crash that damaged three other vehicles.

Whyte, 45, of Dydale Road, gave a blood alcohol test reading of 219mg, Swindon magistrates heard.

The legal limit is 80mg. He had denied both charges.

The bench imposed a six-month community order along with a three-month nightly curfew between 8pm and 5am.

Whyte was told to pay £1,200 prosecution costs and another £85 towards victim services.

PARK SOUTH: Evelyn Harmeston was given a 12-month conditional discharge by Swindon magistrates after she pleaded guilty to shoplifting earrings from Debenhams.

Harmeston, 48, of Studland Close, had initially denied taking the jewellery valued at between £10 and £15 from the store on September 19.

SWINDON: Repeat offender Julian Smith, 36, was jailed for 12 weeks after he admitted stealing more than £700 of groceries from Tesco in Ocotal Way.

Smith, who also goes by the surname Elgin, also admitted taking make-up brushes from Boots.

He was told by Swindon magistrates he was being sent to prison because of his record of offending.

He was told to pay £115 towards victim services.

The stolen groceries were recovered, the court heard.

ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT: A man caught with a Samurai sword and a knife in Rylands Way has been told to do 80 hours of unpaid work.

Ras Nicholson, 33, of no fixed address, had denied both charges relating to an incident on June 11, two years ago.

But he was found guilty following a trial.

Swindon magistrates made him the subject of a 12-month community order.

SWINDON: Amenophis Asante was fined £250 for assaulting a woman.

Asante, 32, of Millstone Close, Stratford, London, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrates’ Court.

He was instructed to pay £85 towards victim services and another £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

SWINDON: A thief who stole a hand-held Dyson vacuum cleaner and a handbag from a woman has been ordered to pay £590 in compensation.

Billy Butler, 22, of Onley Prison, Rugby, also used a stolen bank card, Swindon magistrates heard.

He admitted both charges. No order was made for prosecution costs.

SWINDON: Magistrates handed down a six-week prison sentence to a man who wielded a lump of wood at the Deer’s Leap pub.

Kevin Thomas-Fuller, 24, of Leigh Road, pleaded guilty to the charge, which followed an incident on March 17.

He was told to pay £115 towards victim services.

SWINDON: Paul Hillier was fined a total of £100 for assaulting a police officer and for being drunk and disorderly at Cambria Bridge on February 20.

Hillier, 50, of Radnor Street pleaded guilty to both charges. Magistrates ordered him to pay £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service and a £30 victim surcharge.
