DOZENS of greyhounds will be taking their humans for a walk on Sunday (June 9) in Chippenham's Monkton Park.

Organiser Ann Stanford from Melksham said: "The Great Global Greyhound Walk is an annual dog-walking event that brings together greyhounds, lurchers, other sighthounds and their owners to raise awareness of the breeds and show the public just what wonderful pets they make."

Last year scores of owners and dogs took part and this year she hopes even more will attend. She said: "The stroll is around an hour in length and finishes at the 10th Hole tea room in the park. The author Jilly Cooper has donated £50 to the Evesham Greyhound and lurcher Rescue Charity in support of the event and there are greyhound walks across the country on the day."

Steve Stanford said greyhounds need homes after their racing career ends and they were placid pets. The Lacock Great Global Greyhound Walk has its own Facebook page and the walk begins at 10.30am.
