WOOTTON Bassett does not need another care home, is the message coming from councillors and people opposing plans for a 66 bedroomed home in the town.
Similar plans have already been refused twice, but a new application have been submitted by Leda Properties Ltd to build the home on Marsh Farm in the parish of Lydiard Tregoz.
Cllr Mollie Groom has called the application, which includes a 20 space car park, before the Eastern Area Planning Committee.
Residents say the three story home does not fit in with the rural area.
Cllr Groom said: "Here we have a proposal to build an un-needed and unwanted three-storey care home, style more suited to a town or city. The actual site is on an unallocated greenfield; alongside an historic listed farmhouse where regular clients visit to enjoy walking and the quiet countryside." The application states: "It is well established at Wiltshire and National level that the UK is experiencing an ageing population and requirements in this respect are increasing on an on-going basis."
