CARS have been torched in Chippenham in the early hours of today (Saturday, June 1) when a shed caught fire in Downing Street.

Fire and Rescue Services said the fire involved several cars, a shed, electricity pylon and side of a house at around 3.30am.

they said two crews from Chippenham were alerted at 3.46am to reports of a shed on fire outside a property in Downing Street, Chippenham.

A spokesperson said: "Upon arrival, crews found one shed on fire, three private vehicles and an electricity pole; the fire had also spread to the outside of the nearest property however did not spread to inside.

"The fire crews initially alerted to the fire radio'd for assistance for an additional fire engine to assist with managing the incident, where they used 4 breathing apparatus sets, two high-pressure hose reel jets, triple extension ladder, thermal imaging camera and positive pressure fan to extinguish the fire.

"One casualty suffering smoke inhalation was seen to by the Ambulance Service. Scottish and Southern Electricity also attended to isolate the power to the affected electricity pylon."
