MISSING pensioner Barrie Sweet has been found this afternoon, his granddaughter has confirmed.

The coastguard helicopter was seen over Falmouth and Flushing this afternoon, with police on the ground, as the search for the missing pensioner continued.

Barrie Andrew Sweet, 84, left his family home in Penrose Road at around 5.30pm yesterday.

This afternoon, the coastguard helicopter and police were seen searching the area around the Greenbank Hotel and Flushing opposite.

It has since been confirmed that was part of the search for Mr Sweet, who has dementia.

At about 4.45pm his granddaughter said on Facebook that he had been found.

There were also reports of police in Commercial Road, Penryn, this afternoon.

Police have since confirmed that Mr Sweet was found in Penryn and was taken to hospital to be checked over. 

Officers thanked all involved in the search. 

The search began on Wednesday and rescue units involved over the last 25 hours included Coastguard rescue teams from Falmouth, Porthleven, Porthoustock and Portscatho, along with Falmouth RNLI inshore lifeboat and the Coastguard rescue helicopter from Newquay, assisting Devon & Cornwall Police.
