AUGUST is set to see the biggest and best month of events in the history of the Malmesbury Carnival.

The new committee has created a new website listing the events and is dropping publicity leaflets around the town with the details.

Carnival secretary Linzi Field said: “We are going great guns with the plans with a new website which will be a great hub of information including details on all our events and ticket sales.

“We have plans for over 40 events running throughout August with a carnival pop-up shop at the Market Cross on June 29 and July 13 with information.

“There’s a new launch event with the Carnival Blast Off! on July 20, at the Malmesbury Victoria Football Ground with family friendly activities, including music, a barbecue, facepainting, a fire engine, climbing wall and more, plus the chance to find out more about carnival and buy tickets for the events.”

Another new event is a scarecrow trail around the town.

The committee says it is looking for people and businesses to put their creative skills to work and register and create a scarecrow.

It will run from August 10-18 with trail maps on sale and prizes for the winners.

The carnival procession is on August 31 with entries open for floats and walkers.

Some of the planned events include Izzy Pound’s Carnival Blues Night on August 25 at the Kings Arms and a carnival bingo night on August 9 at Burnham House.

A children’s creative workshop is planned on August 20 with author Michael Loveday while storyteller Sue Chadd will give a performance at the library on August 14 for families, along with a mask making workshop.

On August 22-32 the Athelstan Players will be holding musical mash-up review with songs from the shows in St Mary’s Hall.

While over the August bank holiday weekend there will be the traditional carnival funfair in the Station Road carpark.
