DEVIZES Mayor Judy Rose gave her seal of approval to Devizes Town Youth Football Club when she visited at the weekend just days after taking up the town’s top civic job.

Over the weekend hundreds of young footie fans took to the club’s pitches at Nursteed Road to pit their skills against other teams.

Club chairman Nathan Sheridan was delighted with the way the End of Season Festival went and thanked everyone who turned up to support and sponsors who helped make the weekend possible.

Cllr Rose has chosen the youth football club as one of the causes she will support during her year in office and is particularly pleased that it runs free Little Kicker sessions for children aged three to six.

She said: “I think it is wonderful that children have the chance to join in free sessions like this. Football is a great way for them to socialise and to learn rules and discipline while having a huge amount of fun.

The festival started on Friday evening and finished on Sunday. More than 140 teams in 11 different age groups took part from U6s to U16s.

He said: “It was an amazing weekend. I want to thank everyone who attended and the feedback given. Also a huge thank yhou to all the helpers who looked really smart in new tracksuits.

“Thank you also to all our tournament Sponsors, Without them it wouldn’t be possible.”

Wiltshire Air ambulance volunteers set up a stall and also took a collection bucket around the crowd.
