A Malmesbury mum has been warned she faces jail after she admitted her involvement in an international drug smuggling operation.

Paola Morrish pleaded guilty to the fraudulent evasion of a prohibition by playing a part in bringing crystal meth into the country.

The 41-year-old admitted committing the offence, with others, between October 20 last year and February 5 this year.

Although a Swiss national, Morrish appeared in the dock at the Swindon Crown Court with a Spanish interpreter to help her follow proceedings.

The consignment of class A drugs was found inside 430 dolls which were intercepted at Stansted Airport after they were sent to the UK from Mexico.

Michael Hall, defending, said the crown are placing his client as a leading role in the operation based on data and messages downloaded from telephones.

However he said her legal team are still working through 9,000 pages of evidence which is almost all written in Spanish.

He told the court it needed to be translated into English before her position in the supply chain could be established.

Judge Jason Taylor QC granted them a three month adjournment and remanded Morrish, of Carnival Close, Malmesbury, in custody until Thursday August 1.

He told her: "That will give the defence and prosecution time to go through all the text messages.

"In the meantime you will be remanded in custody.

"You are aware that there can only be one kind of sentence in this case."

An earlier hearing was told that two other people may be charged in relation to their alleged roles in the matter.
