PEOPLE in Broad Town have been celebrating the completion of works to improve the Village Hall. A commemorative plaque was presented at a well-attended community coffee morning in the hall.

The refurbishment of the kitchen and toilets was made possible thanks to financial support from various groups, to whom the community is very grateful .

The Hills Group Ltd gave £8,000, which was made available through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF), administered for Hills by Community First, the Rural Community Council for Wiltshire. Broad Town Parish Council gave £5,000, on behalf of the Good Energy Fund. A Community Area Grant of £3,000 came from Royal Wootton Bassett & Cricklade Area Board.

Local company Moore Property Services, who carried out the work, were praised for their professional approach and co-operation, which enabled hall users to continue their regular activities.

Following the completion of works, the hall committee replaced floor coverings in the refurbished areas. Hall spokesman Ray Manley said: "We are very grateful to Crapper & Sons Ltd, who gave £2,500 towards the cost of this work, carried out by Charles Geddes Carpets Ltd of Royal Wootton Bassett. The money was made available through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) which is administered for Crappers by Community First, the Rural Community Council for Wiltshire."

The refurbished premises, now available for events, can be booked via Nigel Crocker on 01793 731281. The hall is a centre for many village events, including the coffee morning organised by a team of volunteers twice a month. "This is very popular and has really brought residents together," said Mr Manley, who invited local children to count the number of times he said "Thank you" in his speech at the event. "Fifteen!" they declared triumphantly, amid appreciative applause
