ORGANISERS of the Derry Hill Scarecrow Festival were delighted with the turn out and the number of creative designs.

Nicola Heath of Rub-A-Dub Preschool who were behind the event said: “We were delighted to have 116 families through the village, despite the elements being so harsh on us.

“The village was buzzing with lots of smiley faces.

“We try every year to keep the themes to something children can answer and this years theme was ‘Disney Movies’ and we even had some children doing the trail as Disney princesses.”

The winning scarecrow was was based on the film UP and was created by the Armstrong family.

Nicola said: “At the village hall we had a bouncy castle, faceprinting by Sarah, and the famous tea and cake table.”

The amount raised on the day was over £1,500 which will go towards the garden improvement fund and our ‘yearly’ experience for the preschool children.

She said the winner of the trail will be contacted on May 4, and will receive £50.

This was only the second time the event has been organised.
