A ROUTINE patrol has found a suspected dealer's stash of cannabis worth around £1,000.

A 31-year-old man was stopped around 6.30pm on Thursday after officers from the North Swindon Community Policing team pulled over the silver vehicle and got a strong smell of cannabis.

A search of the driver found five bags of cannabis and he was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a class B controlled substance with intent to supply.

He was also arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a swab test revealed he was under the influence of cannabis.

Further searches of his home found around £1,000 pound's worth of of the drug.

PC Luke Hobbs of Wiltshire Police said: “Patrols in North Swindon have been increased following a recent spike in Anti-social behaviour, this is believed to be linked on occasion to recreational drug abuse.

"Not only have we halted potential drug supply in the area by stopping this individual, another dangerous and inconsiderate driver who was under the influence of drugs has been taken off our roads, furthering the safety for the other road users."

A 31-year-old male passenger, a local man, was released at the scene after nothing was found on him.

The driver has been released under investigation whilst police await blood result for the drug drive matter. Police revealed his mobile phone devices will be investigated for any evidence.
