PRISON awaits a man who brutally assaulted a Melksham woman after he was sentenced by a Swindon Court last week.

Scott Wayne Wells, aged 28, of Trinity Walk, in Frome, was sentenced to ten years in prison following the trial.

Police officers were called to an address in Goldfinch Road, Melksham, on 21 October 2018 following a silent 999 call.

When police called the number back, they could hear a woman in the background who sounded in distress.

When officers arrived at the property the victim was initially unwilling to engage and tried to hide her injuries, but her health deteriorated and she was taken to the Royal United Hospital by ambulance with suspected head injuries.

Further enquiries revealed that Wells had launched a sustained and vicious attack on his victim, while they were at a friend's house the previous evening, and this had been witnessed by a neighbour and one of the victim's young children.

Wells was arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and criminal damage.

He pleaded guilty to both counts during a hearing at Swindon Crown Court and, on 24 April 2019 he was sentenced to ten years in prison, as well as one year concurrent for the criminal damage, and also given a restraining order to prevent him contacting his victim.

Det Con Kerry Foster, from Wiltshire Police's Public Protection Department, said: "This was an horrific assault, where Wells rained down punches on his victim, kicked her and stamped on her head.

"She suffered serious injuries, including fractures to her face, and still has blurred vision. The incident has also left her with emotional scars, including anxiety. She spoke to us about how upset she was when her children saw her injured face.

"This all took place at a friend's address with three young children upstairs, including a baby, and one of those children had witnessed some of the violence.

"I want to publicly pay tribute to the victim and her friend, who have shown great bravery in speaking to us and giving statements about what happened."

Wiltshire Police say they take domestic abuse seriously and urge other victims to come forward and speak to them.
