Wiltshire’s travel news for Tuesday, April 23: M4 congestion; train services disrupted by farm animals at Westbury
Roads
After the holiday the commute to and from work is back with some schools returning early adding to the traffic.
Congestion on the M4 around Bristol reported with tailbacks in Salisbury and Chippenham on the main arteries.
Usual hold ups around Devizes, Melksham and Marlborough – mainly due to road works.
M4: Severe delays and queueing traffic for nine miles due to earlier accident , a car and a lorry involved on M4 Eastbound between J18 A46 (Bath / Tormarton) and J17 A350 (Chippenham). Congestion to J19 (M32 / Bristol). Recovery is complete and all lanes reopened just before 08:10. All lanes have been re-opened. Travel time is 1hour 40 minute.
M4: slow further west into Bristol and across to Newport in Wales.
A303: Expect delays later on today at the Stonehenge roundabout
A361 Devizes – hold ups due to road works
A420 heading to Bristol very slow
Railways
Westbury and Castle Cary the line towards Castle Cary is blocked by farm animals.
Train services running through these stations may be delayed by up to 45 minutes.
