Wiltshire’s travel news for Easter Monday, April 22: expect motorway congestion later - also train services disrupted

Roads

After the holiday weekend comes the return. Traffic is likely to build up later today as many people head home as they have work or school tomorrow. Expect heavy traffic on the M5 in Devon and Somerset up to the Stroud area of the motorway and the junction with the M4.

The M4 around Heathrow is already congested say the AA at J4 with tailbacks in all directions.

In London the Marble Arch area is congested due to an ongoing demonstration with tailbacks on the A40 and A402.

Usual hold ups around Devizes, Melksham and Marlborough – mainly due to road works.

M4: reported clear this morning but expected to become congested as the day goes on.

M5: Between Portishead and Clevedon expect delays as weight of traffic slows flow.

A303: Expect delays later at the Stonehenge roundabout

A361 Devizes – hold ups due to road works

A368: Weston-super-Mare to Bath is closed in the Chew Valley area. Avoid.

B4122 south from J17 of the M4 is closed

Railways

Major disruption and delays over the Easter Weekend for engineering work with buses preplacing trains in many areas of the country and many services cancelled.

GWR report delays and timetable changes on Swindon to Cheltenham, trains from Bristol Parkway to Wales replaced with buses, and major delays and changes to the timetable between Taunton and Westbury.
