A GARDEN designer in Chippenham is creating a green space in support of Diabetes UK at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern.
The agricultural show runs from May 9-12, and will feature the designs of Katherine Hathaway and her colleague Karen Tatlow.
They will be moving tons of soil to the show ground in order to create The Habit of Living Garden to raise awareness of diabetes which affects more people than cancer and dementia combined.
It is a personal project as Katherine’s father was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in later life, while Karen’s stepdaughter battled severe illness with complications due to her Type 1 diabetes last year.
To achieve the design they will be laying paving, building walls, planting a tree and installing mature hedges. The colours will reflect the moods people go through with the disease.
It will include a water feature with intermittent water jets to remind visitors that someone is diagnosed with diabetes every two minutes.
