A family group dedicated to cleaning up the River Marden in Calne has been praised by the Mayor Cllr Glenis Ansell for their work.

Gemma Parkinson and her family of Elisha 12, and Archie 6, were among a group from The River Warriors who made a presentation to the town council on Monday.

Cllr Richard Merrick said: "I am very impressed with the young voices in our community who are making a difference to the town."

The River Warriors organised a litter pick along the river in the town in March and removed sacks of rubbish as well as litter from the playground.

On April 4, they pulled four supermarket trolleys from the river and also collected rubbish from the brook that feeds into the river.

However there were still four supermarket trolleys chained together in the river that need to be removed.

Gemma Parkinson said children loved taking part as it was practical and fun.
