Spring Clean fever was bursting out in West Lavington Parish on Saturday, 6th April when the sun came out again after cold and wet winter days. Our Youth Club at the village hall opened its doors to allow the Spring Cleaners to gather at 9.30am and picking continued until 1pm.

Community spirit including tea, coffee and biscuits was much in evidence when local residents of all age groups including families with children turned out to clear our streets, wash street signs, sweep bus shelters and nurture our telephone kiosks.

The Great British Spring Clean in support of ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ exemplifies the pride of Littleton Panell and West Lavington and although there were fewer volunteers this year (20 plus) those that did make the effort more than compensated for the reduced numbers by their enthusiasm and desire to do their bit.

Wiltshire Council and ‘Street Scene’ provided much appreciated litter picking equipment which the parish is grateful for and which will be retained for further litter picks over the summer when particular locations will be targeted.

It is evident that some people who could not attend have made the effort to clean up around their property and they are to be applauded but unfortunately there are other locations where owners could do much more to improve things for us all.

In the region of 40 bags of rubbish were collected by the volunteers this year and ‘Street Scene’ has agreed to remove them all for appropriate disposal.

A huge thank you to those who have made the effort so far this year and in anticipation also to those intending to tidy their location in the coming days and weeks!
