THEY were possibly the most elegantly dressed women in Calne last Friday (March 29).
The Lansdown Ladies turned out in force for Wear A Hat Day in support of Brain Tumour Research meeting at the Lansdown Hotel on The Strand wearing stylish hats and wearing their best outfits.
"It's such a good cause," said organiser Yvonne McColl, "so we decided to wear our hats and meet here for coffee and support the charity that helps so many people and children."
She said the Lansdown Ladies had emerged from the end of Calne Women's Institute last year which had been going for many years setting up the new group in January this year.
"We didn't want it to end," she said, "so we started Lansdown Ladies to keep the group together. We called it Lansdown Ladies as the name is well known and very historic and we meet here at the hotel."
With a raffle and donations the ladies raised £75 for the charity adding to the million pounds raised so far for research.
