BIG plans are afoot for Calne’s bowling club as the committee behind it look to the future, starting with two open days in April.
They will be held from 10am to 3pm, on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 28, with an option also for those interested in attending their Tuesday evening club nights when all are welcome.
“It’s a great way to meet people and play a sport,” said Barry Wicks the club chairman. “I was new to the town and I came across the bowls club and it’s been a really good way to join in the town’s social life.
“There’s an image that you need to be old and can only play in blazers or whites but that’s all changed. Now all you need are flat soled shoes or trainers and just turn up and have a go.”
He said everyone was welcome on the open days including young people and teenagers. They hope to increase the facilities at the club and to attract more members.
Founded in 1914, the club is on Anchor Road, with more information on the sport and facilities on their FaceBook page.
